Braking distance

Braking distance is the distance a car moves after hitting the brakes to the point where the car comes to a standstill. The braking distance depends on the speed of the car, the state of the roads, the condition of the tyres and braking technique. The braking distance increases quadratically as the speed of the vehicle increases; i.e. braking distance and speed of the vehicle are directly proportional.
